In the evenings, once I'm done packaging eBay stuff for mailing, I calm down from the day by playing video games. I'm not a serious gamer, and never will be, but I have a wide variety of tastes, from shooters, to RPGs, to word games, and so forth. I tell myself that it helps make my brain work, since I get fogged by the FMS and meds, and it helps my hand/eye coordination, since that rots too. But what it really does is simply clear my brain from the day. And what is really weird, is that it backs down some of my migraines if I play after I take my usual fistful of meds (as long as there aren't any loud noises and flashing lights). It's the last thing I'd expect to help, but there you are.
But since I'm the broke, starving, disabled, sorta-artist, the last thing I can waste money on is video games, but I found this nifty site where they offer a free game every day as a promo and to get reviews. Usually the game hasn't been released yet, but sometimes they offer games that have been out for a while, to renew interest in them. Some of the games are pretty cheesy. Some of them are pretty nifty. But they're free, and that's my favorite flavor.
They also have a parent site that does a software giveaway of the day.
I'll never be a serious video gamer. Game pad controllers scare me. And my hands have muscle spasms from the FMS, which are bad enough in silly casual-type games. I use a track-ball mouse, because I could just about send a regular mouse off the desk without meaning too. I have a rather nifty hand-held mouse that clicks kinda like a gun trigger.... but The Phooka also thought it was nifty and made really fun noises when thwacked from side to side by the cord. Then bit the cord in two. He tells the story better in his blog at the_phookabunny . If you haven't read his blog, you might want to take a peek. He has a larger audience than my blog does. He must be a funnier writer. A rabbit must have a different way of looking at the world :) He doesn't update as often though. He's not really allowed at the computer. Cords have a way of turning into more pieces than they are supposed to be when he has been near them.
