Dmitri appears to be molting...I was able to tug fur out of his head until he had a tiny bald spot between his ears. Is the bald spot normal? None of my buns have molted before so I was somewhat taken aback when I got a chunk of brown fur in my fingers petting him.

Also, I was doing the annual nail clipping and examination on all three buns. While I was rubbing Jack's belly to check him over I discovered a small...thing on his belly. It seemed a bit like a scab (had red edges) but was tiny and I couldn't see it very well. It was WAY harder than any scab I've felt before, though, almost like a piece of fingernail. I tried to cut it away a bit- it's superficial and doesn't extend past the muscle or even the fat, really. It didn't bleed at all. He didn't yelp or grunt or bite or gnash his teeth. He was incredibly calm while I poked and prodded it.

Any thoughts on what it might be? I figure it might be an old wound from before I got him, since the lady said he was aggressive and he might have gotten in a fight with another bun. He also fought Dmitri way back when they first met months ago and it took me a few seconds to break them up so something might have happened then.

I don't have the cash ATM to take him to the vet for it, considering I already took Niko for a checkup on her ear sore and got "It's nothing, sixty dollars please" and then days later took Jack for his neuter. :\ I'm wondering whether it sounds like nothing or something he should go in for (it's deff. not a tumor or anything like that...just like a skin sore).

Thanks guys. :D

neither of my dogs is "cuddly" with the bunnies. they ignore them, even when the bunnies are loose, and that is fine. (they also ignore the cats, btw).

but today i saw something that made me very happy. my rabbits have their own room, blocked off from the rest of the house with a 4 foot high grate. they can see through, but not get out. this room is also the easiest exit to the back yard, where the dogs have free roam in the fenced back yard. so, both dogs and bunnies are used to having the gate open and while the dogs are ushered outside.

this evening, i opened the grate to let libby, my big fluffy-butt mutt outside. the bunnies, as usual, were right in the way, begging for food. libby backed off a few paces and obviously waited for the buns to get out of the way before she charged through. and libby had been cooped up for nearly 9 hours, so i know she really needed to go out.

nothing like a little inter-species courtesy to brighten the day and remind us of what is important.

I get most of my cross stitching magazines from the UK. I love each & every one of my magazines that I get, but my problem is getting the characters here in the US. For example, one of my friends, just had a baby & she likes Little Bundle by Margaret Sherry. There is no online store here in the US (that I have found) that carries it. I am hoping my LNS can order it. Would some of you please give me some links to online stores here in the US? Preferably one that carries UK products like Tatty Teddy, Charlie Ark, Solo the cat, Margaret Sherry, etc.

Thanks in advance.

I have two cats who are both 18 months old. This week, I switched from Adult Purina One cat food to Nutro Weight Control Food. I've been mixing their old food with the new food. But, I've been noticing that they'll eat all of their old food first and leave the new food behind. However, when they decide that they're hungry enough, they'll finish the Nutro.

Is this normal or is this a sign of them saying, "Mom, I hate this. Why are you giving this to me?"

If it's them hating their new food, what's another good brand for weight control?

I use to be a member of this community a few years ago and joined again recently after acquiring a new rabbit. My last rabbit died a little over a year ago after surgery to remove an abscess. I work for the local parks and rec program as a naturalist hike leader and lead night hikes in a wilderness park. A month ago I showed up to work to lead a full moon hike and a little girl told me there was a rabbit under someone's car. I didn't think much of it since there are wild rabbit everywhere. She then told me it was a pet bunny. I looked under that car and saw a little white butt and it was clear that this was no wild rabbit. A bunch of us tried coaxing her out from under the car, but long story short she ended up coming to me and I was able to catch her. Knowing the area it was impossible that she had gotten out of someone's backyard and we were all sure that someone had dumped her there. I took her home and now she lives with me and my boyfriend. She got a vet check up and was spayed shortly after that. I'm guessing shes about 5 months now and she has been nothing but a joy to have. I had been longing to adopt another rabbit recently and it was almost like fate how we found each other.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself recently and I made a BunSpace for her:

And of course pictures. Here's a link to her photo album on my facebook. Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll post pictures here some other way.

Smidgeon, you darling little idiot, you need to wake up to the fact that The Phooka is BIGGER THAN YOU! He is huge. He is almost THREE TIMES your weight. And he is a lop, which means that he is not mostly leg, like other breeds of rabbits. His weight is all muscle and bulk. It would be the equivelent of me seeing an upended refrigerator hurtling down at me.

Therefore, my dear kitten, when he is racing across the room for his beloved salad, it is NOT the time to pull to an abrupt stop in front of him to half roll over and clean your butt. Besides the above mentioned bulk.. he also has really really rotten brakes. It is only out of sheer luck for you that he was getting his salad just a little bit earlier than usual and so he wasn't quite as hungry as usual, that he was able to stop in time, and I have to say that I admire his self-control. I've seen him bowl over bigger and fiercer obstacles than you on his way to his salad. I was amazed that all he did was look at you, then at me in sheer apalled amazement, then at you and back at me again. And STILL he didn't charge right through you.

You have no idea how lucky you are, scamp.
