EEEE! One of the new baby squirrels is a black 'un!! I've never seen a black squirrel, much less HAVE ONE IN MY YARD as a visitor, so I'm so excited!!
First, I saw a black tail whisking around the birch tree, and I wasn't sure it was what I thought I saw. Then a little black face peeked around. I didn't have batteries in my "good" camera, so the far-away pics aren't very good... but here he is, looking like part of the birch tree!

And here he is ... still looking like part of the birch tree.. or maybe like a bat with a very long tail....

And then he whisked around the tree again, and I thought maybe that was it for the day. As it was, I had NINE squirrels in my little feeding area, and I thought that he might not want to push his way into the crowd.
Then a few minutes later, I saw him tip-toeing up the driveway...

EEEEE! He shuffled around the little fence line a bit, but was obviously familiar with the feeders. He shimmied up the feeding pole to peer into the (empty) suet cage, then climbed around in the lilac bush, before moseying up to where the seeds and corn were spread out on the ground... and nine other squirrels! (Man, that's a lot of squirrels in such a small area! Six is my usual, and some of those weren't even there this morning - the rest were all BABIES!

Again, he was a little hard to photograph at this point. He was still shying away from the others, and I had to kinda tilit out the window.

But here, you can see his beautiful thick black tail! I think this is the most beautiful of all my squirrels' tails (sorry Gimpy, you do have a very pretty tail, though!). It is so dense, I can't even see through to the bone. You can also see some of the chocolate-colored highlights on his face and sides. His paws also are chocolate.

A little better view, but the camera fudged his tail. There aren't any grey highlights in his tail. It's a solid rich black.

"HEY! Whatchya doin' with dat camera dere?"
He stayed around for a long time this morning, having breakfast with the others. I hope he ends up making this yard his home, instead of branching out with the other babies. I firmly intend on seducing him to The StealthBunny Way!
